Abstract [en]

Silicon is an element which, in its pure form, has become increasingly important in electronics, photonics, in alloys and in polymers. It is also on the European Commission’s list of critical raw materials. 200 years have passed since the Swedish chemist Jacob Berzelius first isolated the element.
